I like garlic and eat a lot of it. Unlike many people I even like raw garlic
and the tang it adds to a salad or sandwich. But I'm not sure I'd want to
eat a whole raw clove. I certainly couldn't eat ten in five minutes.
That's the amazing - and slightly scary - target for entrants to the first
World Garlic Eating Competition which will be held in England this year.
The event is being organised by the
South West Garlic Farm in South West Dorset and will take place on 14th September 2013
at the George Inn, Chideocock. Contestants will be presented with a bowl
containing ten peeled cloves and will try to eat as many as posible in five
minutes. The winner will receive a trophy and a prize of £100.
If you're going to be in the area this summer and think that your stomach can handle the onslaught then you can enter via the competition website.
